Although the Sydney 500 weekend didn’t go as planned, V8 Supercar young gun, Nick Percat, still has plenty to be proud of after completing his first full season in the category. As the heavens opened over the gnarly Homebush street circuit, causing on-track chaos and an early end to two of the three races, the 26 year-old wasn’t able to achieve the results he was after. When the points were tallied up, the number 222 Walkinshaw Racing Commodore driver fell an agonizing 24 points short of his targeted 10th position – eventually finishing 12th overall.

In his first full season in V8 Supercars, 26 year-old Nick Percat has taken another step towards his goal of achieving an overall top 10 position with a trio of strong finishes at the Phillip Island 400 (14th to 16th November). Indeed, his results continued to improve throughout the weekend on the fast and flowing circuit with an 11th place finish in race 33, followed by a 10th in race 34 and an impressive 8th in Sunday’s 45 lap race 35. It was exciting racing at one of Percat’s favourite tracks, particularly on Sunday when he diced with the likes of Nissan’s Rick Kelly side by side through the sweeping Phillip Island curves at around 200kph!

After their stunning podium finish at Bathurst, Nick Percat and his British co-driver, Oliver Gavin, in the number 222 Walkinshaw Racing Commodore, were forced to scrap hard for every point at the recent Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercar event. Although the weekend didn’t go to plan, the Startline supported team still managed to secure a very commendable 7th overall placing at the completion of the Pirtek Enduro Cup.

The epic thrills and spills of one of the most bizarre Bathurst 1000s ever has really captured the imagination of the viewing public and the number 222 Walkinshaw Racing Commodore, complete with distinctive purple Startline branding, was right in the thick of it. An onsite crowd in excess of 195,000, along with 3.75 million Australian TV viewers watched as young gun, Nick Percat and his British co-driver, Oliver Gavin, claimed a dramatic last lap podium finish behind the winning Ford of Chaz Mostert / Paul Morris and the Nissan of James Moffat / Taz Douglas.
